June is Audiobook Month

The sounds of summer are upon us: chirping birds, a sizzling barbecue, the roar of the ocean, and the sound of pages turning on your favorite summer novel. Thanks to audiobooks, the novel being read aloud to you might replace that last sound. Formerly known as “books on tape,” audiobooks allow you to “read” many more books this summer, not only at the beach or in the back yard, but in transit as you head to your favorite summer vacation spots.

The audiobook company Audible calls listening “the new reading.”Listening to books is gaining popularity because they can be enjoyed while driving, walking, biking or traveling by bus, train or plane. You can also listen while performing tasks like housework, gardening, or yardwork.

Experience the Joy of Reading Without Ever Turning the Page

Celebrate Audiobook Month by experiencing the joy of listening to a best-selling novel or a work by your favorite author. You won’t be alone; the number of Americans trying it grows every year. Forty-four percent of Americans have listened to at least 1 audiobook2; 1 in 5 listened to one in the past year.3

Audiobooks are often read by the authors themselves or by trained, talented voices. Celebrity readers run the gamut from performers like Lin-Manuel Miranda to mega-stars like Meryl Streep. As a listener, you’ll not only enjoy your chosen book, but also a personal “performance” as these actors and writers bring their considerable talent and dramatic flair to each audiobook.

Try an audiobook and add richness to one of life’s pleasures. We’ve compiled some popular titles that will keep your nose—or rather, your ears—in a book all summer long.
